Toronto Trail Runners
Dog PoliCY
TTR Dog Policy
TTR prioritizes the safety of our run community. For this reason we require all dogs joining TTR runs to be leashed before, during, and after the runs. We have made this decision with both the safety of our people and pet runners in mind. Because TTR runs take place predominantly on single-track technical trails, through various weather conditions and trail conditions, and for half the year evening runs take place in the dark, leashing dogs will ensure the safety of both our people and pet runners.
Ensuring a safe and comfortable experience on the trails is a shared responsibility. We ask that all TTR dog handlers and runners abide by the following expectations and responsibilities:
Dog handlers must:
- Be sure to always have a leash with you. Dogs joining TTR runs must be leashed. Dogs must also be leashed before and after the run.
- Be sure to give other dogs and runners space on the trails.
- Be sure to gauge the overall group and if your dog is new to the trails, we recommend running with them at the back.
- Remember that we sometimes cross trafficked roads and railroads.
- Always bring poop bags with you so you can clean up after your dog. Even though we’re in the woods, leaving poops behind on the trail is poor etiquette!
- If you have any issues or questions, please speak to or text one of the TTR leads or email us at info@torontotrailrunners.ca
As individual runners, we ask:
- Give dogs space. Not all dogs welcome contact.
- Ask the dog handler if you can approach their dog. Only approach a dog once consent has been given.
- Leave appropriate space between all runners and runners with dogs on the trails.
- If you have any issues or questions, please speak to or text one of the TTR leads or email us at info@torontotrailrunners.ca
We believe that dogs should enjoy the trails as much as we do and that’s why we would like to hold dog handlers to the same etiquette & standards that we uphold as a community – responsibility, respect, and inclusivity.
We do hope that you understand the necessity of this message and value the integrity of this great community.
